Independent Gemstone and Jewelry Appraiser

After graduating from the Gemological Institute of America in Santa Monica, CA in 1982, Carl’s gemstone and appraisal career developed in the San Fransisco Bay area where he worked for 30 years. For 18 of those years, he owned and operated a retail fine jewelry store in Menlo Park, CA.  He has served as the president of the Northern California Guild of the American Gem Society as a Certified Gemologist Appraiser and has lectured on the subjects of gemstones and jewelry at various venues throughout the years.

Carl graduated from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and Religious Studies and furthered his graduate education at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado. In 2012, family roots called him back to the midwest where he established Minneapolis Gemological Services, a multi-purpose gemstone and jewelry appraisal business to serve the twin cities and surrounding areas. Known for his calming presence and dry wit, Carl instantly brings a sense of friendly ease and comfort to any conversation.
